24 Hours of Freedom

The 24 Hours of Freedom is an amazing team relay race for teams of 6-14 people running and hand-cycling from Flagstaff to Phoenix, Arizona. The race course follows parts of the Arizona Trail, single track, dirt roads, back roads, and frontage roads over 200+ miles of awesome Arizona terrain. Teams compete in 4 categories taking from 24 to 36 hours to complete the course. The race is scheduled to begin April 18, 2008 in Flagstaff and finish the next day east of Phoenix. A celebration for the teams will be held at the finish line where food, music and sponsors and fans will gather to congratulate the teams.
Teams are composed of runners, hand-cyclists and one-offers who make their way in order over legs 1-36. A team of 12 will have racer number 1 compete on leg 1, getting to exchange number one after about a 4 mile leg, where they will hand the "baton" off to racer number 2 who takes off on leg number 2 -- and so forth throughout the race. Read more about the process.
